On May 11th, our own John Foley will be speaking at the PRINTEGR8 in Long Beach, California, sponsored by Westamerica Graphics.

PRINTEGR8

Here is an excerpt from the official press release:

“The integrating and energizing force behind multi-channel marketing and targeted campaigns that include internet, email, mobile and social media – is PRINT. And, print on paper is an environmentally friendly medium due to its renewability, recycle-ability, and sustainable forest management. That’s the message top advertising agency executives and media/marketing decision makers will hear in the first West Coast Print Delivers seminar, PRINTEGR8, hosted by Westamerica Graphics and The Print Council. This premier event will be held on Wednesday May 11, 2011 at the Hyatt Regency Long Beach from 11:00am to 1:30pm.

In this lunch-and-learn workshop, attendees will hear about:

  • New print technologies (QR Codes, pURLS, augmented reality) combined with digital media that energize marketing campaigns.
  • Case studies from ATT, Dell, Feld Entertainment and others that reaped ROI results of 200 – 3000%.
  • Multi-channel campaigns from Miami University and VW, including the business challenges and how these organizations utilized the data to produce relevant content and results.
  • Why print media is the environmentally sound choice for communicating with the audiences that marketers and media specifiers want to reach.”

In one of the most trying times in recent history for sports fans, social media has become the last lifeboat on the sinking ship that is the NFL. The National Football League is a multi-billion dollar behemoth, but details about the negotiations between players and owners remain hazy at best. Fans have resorted to Twitter for news from the players involved in the collective bargaining discussions, which is a clear indicator of the legitimacy of social media to traditional news outlets.

ESPN uses Tweets as official quotes. And Twitter has served multiple purposes in this pigskin pickle. It has worked as a public relations medium, as players try to save face with fans and talk to them on a personal level. New Orleans Saints quarterback Drew Brees has been spearheading this movement. He has been frank, partisan, and honest with his followers. There is a discord, and Brees is thoroughly against it.

In January, the NFL Players’ Association even declared a #LETUSPLAY hashtag day on Twitter. Twitter’s immediacy and broad coverage of NFL fans has proved to be the perfect vehicle for this gridiron gridlock. Some of the most respected names in NFL journalism have been using Twitter regularly to get the latest news out.

In an age when Gilbert Goddfried can get canned for making jokes on Twitter and Charlie Sheen can get a million followers in one day, social media’s importance is being proven yet again. While there is no insurance that there will be an NFL season next fall, we can rely on social media to keep us updated on everything.

During LinkedIn’s April Hackday, Sudeep Yegnashankaran, a software engineer on the LinkedIn Mobile team, came up with a brilliant way of connecting LinkedIn to text messages.  His inspiration for this idea was due to the fact that feature phones are still very prominent in the mobile market.  Sudeep did not want to alienate LinkedIn users who did not own a smart phone.  After trying it out for myself, it’s safe to say that this is an extremely easy tool to use and is great for smart phone users as well.  Here is a simply step by step guide on how to use TextIn:

Go to TextIn.LinkedInLabs.com to enter your cell phone number.  As you can see, this is only available in the U.S.

Once you hit go, you’ll have to enter your LinkedIn login.  As soon as your cell phone number and LinkedIn account are synced up, TextIn will provide you with a number to text that is made specifically for your phone.  Saving this number as “LinkedIn’s TextIn” would be the best way to keep it handy.  Once you retrieve the number from TextIn, try it out!

Here are the available commands you can use:

#search <keywords or name>
#profile <email address>
#invite <email address>
#update <status update>
#help

I tried searching my own name and was very impressed with the quick results TextIn provided me with.  Once I searched my name, it gave me a list of people with similar names and their employer.  My profile came up first, so I then texted “1″ to get more information on myself.  It then listed  my current and past jobs.  It was a very quick and convenient way to get information.

TextIn also provided a link right after the job description which would take the person straight to my LinkedIn profile.  This is convenient for feature phone users because they will have a link to refer back to the next time they are on LinkedIn.  For smart phone users, they can easily tap on the link on their phone and be directed to the profile instantly.

As mobile marketing continues to rise, more and more of these features will soon be developed across all social networking sites.  Embrace the innovation and convenience of these fantastic new tools!

Our CEO, John Foley, is proud to announce that his highly-anticipated book, “Business Transformation – A New Path To Profit for the Printing Industry” is officially available for purchase!

His goal for this book was to introduce and explain in-depth how new marketing and communication tools are vastly changing the way businesses promote themselves today.  Foley also brings it all back to how these new marketing strategies can be tied together with traditional marketing tools, such as print.

During his experience of writing the book, Foley had gained a tremendous amount of respect for authors and the publication industry.  John said, “Throughout the entire process of putting together this book, “Business Transformation – A New Path to Profit for the Printing Industry”, I’ve learned quite a bit! Seeing firsthand everything that is required — from the big picture planning to the tiniest details, there is a lot of work, sweat, and hours behind this sort of production.  I certainly have developed a new found respect for authors and editors everywhere! Especially those that seemingly put out a new book each year.”
