When Google+ first rolled out its Pages functionality, I certainly was excited. However, I was slightly nervous that users did not have the ability to designate multiple administrators to a Page.

Well, I have no need to worry any longer.

Google+ has rolled out a new enhancement that enables Pages to have multiple managers.

Here is how you can take advantage of this feature.

Adding Multiple Managers to Your Google+ Page

  • Log-in to Google+, and connect to the Page that you want to edit.
  • In the top-right corner, click the Wheel icon and then the new “Google+ Settings” link
Google+: How to access Page Settings to enable multiple managers
  • On the Settings page, click the “Managers” link from the menu on the left-side of the page
  • Then, simply enter the email address(es) of the people that you would like to also become Managers of that Google+ page.
Google+: How to Add Managers to a Page
  • The folks that you invite will receive an email that asks them to confirm/accept the invitation.
  • From that point forward, they will have the ability to Post to your Google+ page.

One interesting thing to note: Google+ will allow you to name up to 50 Managers for a Page! While that certainly may be excessive for a lot of companies, it will be interesting to see how some groups find a way to utilize that.

I hope that you find these instructions helpful!

Feel free to Circle the Grow Socially page on Google+!

And of course, you can connect with me there as well.

We’ve been waiting for a little while, but Google+ has now officially rolled out a Pages feature.

Many businesses are diving right in by creating Pages for their company, their products, brand, and more. Of course, many of us are learning what features are currently available (and what’s not!) as we go along.

We are compiling tips, tricks,  and a list of questions and answers that we have compiled over the past couple of days. We will be sharing that information with you in forthcoming blog posts.

In the meantime, please feel free to check out Grow Socially’s own Google+ Page!

We’d greatly appreciate it if you added it to one of your Circles.

Make sure to keep an eye out here on the Blog as we’ll be sharing information to help you utilize Google+ Pages to its full potential.

Google+ has certainly been creating buzz in the social networking world for a few months now. However, because it was in an invitation-only/beta mode for most of that time, I believe that its growth potential had a cap.

However, Google recently started to change that policy. People no longer need an invitation to create join the social network — it’s now available to anyone that has a free Google account.

I do think that change will help to further increase Google+ adoption. If you decide to take the step to give it a try, here are three tips that may help you to get more out of the experience:

Take the Time to Fill out Your Profile

One of the bigger complaints that I’ve heard from people that have dabbled with Google+ is that there’s “nothing happening there”. Yes, of course, your Google+ stream will most likely not be able to compete with your Facebook Wall for awhile in terms of activity. You will need to actively find and follow other people. But before we talk about that, it’s important to talk about this — what can you do to make it easy for people to find you? Also, what can you do so that people will want to follow you?

One of the biggest things involved in accomplishing those items is to fill out your Google+ profile.

Google provides a number of fields that can help you to truly tell your story. These include Introduction, Bragging Rights, Employment, Occupation, Education, Places Lived, etc.

Also, you can use pictures to share information about yourself to others. Of course, this includes your Profile picture. But beyond that, you can upload other photos that will appear to people that view your profile.

Taking the few moments to share relevant information about yourself through those fields and features may increase the chances that other Google+ users will find and follow your profile.

Search for People to Follow

Google+ allows you to find people through the main Search box at the top of the page. You can certainly search for people by name. Also, you can search for people by specific keywords through that field. For example, you could type the words “printing” into the Search box, click Enter, and then search under the “People” tab to find people that may have that term somewhere in their profile.

There are certainly far less people on Google+ than there are on Twitter and Facebook. Thus, I would encourage that you be willing to follow a wide variety of folks — not just people that you know offline or that are in your industry.

Of course, the more people that you follow, the busier your stream will get. One way to deal with that is to take advantage of Google+’s Circles feature. Google provides some default circles, but you can also create your own. This will enable you to better classify your online friends into how your mind may classify them.

As Google+ becomes more popular and people start sharing more information there, the Circles feature may enable you to still maximize the value that can come from the network.

Be Committed to Share and Comment Beyond 140 Characters

I admit it — I’m still figuring out how much I should share on Google+. Also, I’m still trying to determine what exactly I should share. But I have noticed this: many people are finding success with their Google+ posts by taking advantage of the fact that the character limit is well beyond what many other social networks offer.

Twitter and Facebook have forced many people to cut down on the words that they would typically use to make an observation or share an article. And in some cases, that’s a good thing! However, there are some subjects that need to have a more in-depth conversation around them. Google+ certainly allows for this.

Along with expanding on your thoughts when you share content there, you can also provide longer and more insightful comments when you engage with someone else’s posts as well.

A lot of people have noted that they are seeing much higher engagement levels on Google+ than they do on Facebook and Twitter. This is certainly not because they have similar user levels! Rather, I do think that having the ability to really express your thoughts a bit more is contributing to that.

When you build your website, you do everything with the intention of reaching a large audience. To do that, search engine optimization is key. SEO is very important in this Google-driven world, and we have some tips to help you increase your SEO and get more hits on your site.

Start A Blog

When it comes to search engines, it is all about fresh content. A blog is the most effective method of pumping new content onto your site while being able to promote all of the things your business can do. Using proper keywords and relevant links in your blog posts also boosts the capability of being recognized in search engines. Blogs are an absolute must.

Unique Pages And Buzz Words

Search engines don’t just love fresh content, they love unique, non-repetitive content. Having a similar meta description for every page actual can devalue your site in the eyes of the engine. Google will automatically pull a small, informational blurb right off your site for each page, which would happen if you don’t have any meta description. In some cases, this may actually be more effective. Having an additional sidebar on your blog with something to the effect of “Most Popular Stories” also helps. The most emailed or Liked stories have more clout, and higher SEO.

Clean URL’s

Pretty self-explanatory here. The more concise the URL, the better. Not only does it look better to Google, it just looks better, period.

ALT Image Text

When you add an image to your site or blog post, you have the option of giving the picture some alternative text as a title, which increases relevancy and expands the amount of content with your company’s name on it.

Google+ Logo

Just when you were ready to label yourself a social media master, Google had to go and change things up! Past the rapid expansions of Facebook, Twitter, YouTube and LinkedIn, rises a new social media monster. Its name is Google+, and it requires a whole new set of strategies, tactics and ideas to tame it.

Google+ offers some features that surpass those of the social platforms you have come to learn. What it does is provide ways for businesses to network and communicate using a simple interface and powerful tools.

First, there is Hangout. Hangout is a way for you and up to ten of your friends to video conference at the same time. There are plenty of creative ways for this feature to be utilized. Organize a video conference with partners from all over. Or you can use it one-on-one for just catching up with one client. Or maybe the boss (oh yeah, that’s me!) is on vacation? Keep him in the loop and log some face time.

Circles is a very smart feature integrated by Google+. This takes care of one of the inherent Facebook problems, which is the inability to separate work and play. Now, you can create circles of friends, and post status messages to only certain circles. What you say to your weekend friends might be different from what you share with your business associates. From a sales perspective, you can organize clients, prospects, leads, and more. Send the right message to the right audience, every time. No wasted recipients.

Huddle is another new feature of Google+. This can be used as an inter-office tool for communicating and sharing ideas, deadlines and more. Huddle is a group-messaging system that allows for conversation to take place between everyone in a circle. This can be a great forum for brainstorming.

Google+ is going to take time to get used to. There is no question about that. But the unique nature of the features provided will make the workplace a more streamlined environment.

This day and age, it’s becoming increasingly more difficult to stand out as a business marketing student when it comes to the job hunt. It took some considerable time to think, “What makes me different?” When I sit and evaluate myself I like to take a step back and think, “What have I always loved and what is it that I have always been good at?” Until you can figure out what your true passion is its hard to figure out what you want to do with your life.

I know I am a people person. I’m the type of person who enjoys meeting people and getting to know them. I like the idea of going to a place that is completely new for me and make at least five new friends. Networking has always been something I loved. I have one year left of college and now that it’s time to join the “real world” how do I apply this to my career or more importantly my near future in the job search? Well the advances in social media have provided me with an amazing venue for advertising myself and creating innovative ways to display my work.

I am not the only one that has found unique ways to market myself through social media venues but I have done some research and developed a base of useful tools to help me. Some websites I love are LinkedIN for its unbelievably professional approach to getting yourself noticed worldwide on a professional platform. Although I still advise cleaning up your facebook, having a LinkedIN profile and expanding that network is vital and becoming increasingly more important to the job search. I also like to focus my attention to two other tools used online that have helped me get where I am academically and in my career. Twitter and a software program called iFlyMobi.

Twitter is amazing because I can surf through twitter looking for contacts that have similar interests, can teach me something, and can share my work. The concept of micro blogging is genius in this fast paced world we’re all growing up in. I along with most Americans are only looking for the most important information and want it as quick as possible. Twitter provides me with the opportunity to explore the web and experience different things all while learning. I end up finding myself blogging more and exploring blogs because they come up in my Twitter feed. I’m learning and I don’t even realize it because I enjoy reading this stuff! I never thought in my entire life that I would say that.

The last tool I use because it is something that sets me apart from everyone else and I am only sharing it with you

because I think everyone should be doing it to promote themselves. iFlyMobi is a software developed by a company that I work with called interlinkONE. What they do is create a mobile optimized portfolio for you where you can display your professional image, bio, links, and a portfolio of your work. Scan my code to see what I’m talking about.

Once your personal mobile website is created you generate a QR code that I put at the top of every resume I have printed in the past year. I attended the SIFE competition in New York last spring and we visited a very largely attended job fair with hundreds of business students from all over this region. Each person I talked to was very interested in my QR code and put my resume right to the top of the pile because they knew how “cool” and unique it was. This little code helped me stand out because it was something that was new and innovative. I highly recommend anyone who’s looking to use this type of creative tool to get one today and start using it as much as possible. It’s a small fee but it’s totally worth it. Put it on a business card, your resume, or even your website, you never know what it could do for you because it surely helped me.

No matter how competitive the job market gets there’s always ways to help yourself stand out and whether you’re like me or not it is important to network and do it in the most unique way possible. With that being said listen to how other people market themselves and create a path that helps you stand out. You could be the next trend setter you just need to think creatively. You never know what’s going to be the next big thing. Who knows it could be you!
