It’s been almost two months since I was at the Higher Logic User Group Super Forum (HUGSF). I am so excited to share a little story with you all. As part of our involvement in the event we had two iPad Mini’s that we gave away to two of our booth visitors.  We collected a ton of awesome business cards and were able to draw two lucky winners with two pretty cool stories.

Maria Rutledge of the Society of Petroleum Engineers (SPE) (pictured) was our first winner. Maria told me at the booth how hopeful she was to win this since she planned on giving it away to her daughter as a late Christmas present. We drew Maria’s name and are so happy for her daughter, who, according to Maria, was so thrilled to get it!

Our second iPad mini winner was my friend at the Alliance of Cambridge Advisors (ACA) Arlene Moss. Arlene and I met at the event a number of times and have had a number of conversations since her name was drawn from the fishbowl. She had downloaded some content from us at the event and after doing some immediate follow up she and I were able to tweet-up and meet each other face to face at the event. When our marketing team drew her name out of the fish bowl I couldn’t wait to give her a call and send her a tweet congratulating her.

Congrats to both of our winners, HUGSF was such a fun event and I think I speak for all of Grow Socially and interlinkONE when I say we can not wait until next year! We hope to build relationships with all different kinds of associations and are dedicated to producing content to help them grow their marketing efforts.

If you’re an association looking to improve their marketing efforts, pick up your phone and give us a call! We would love to help. 1(800)948-0113

In mere hours, Tommy Brady and the Patriots will be facing off against a more-terrifying-than-usual Ray Lewis and his upstart Ravens squad.

Undoubtedly, your social networks will be filled with Monday Morning Quarterbacks, people who have never played football or haven’t in quite some time who position themselves as the authority on all things Patriots. “Pass it to Welker more!” they will declare. “Wilfork can stop the whole offense by himself!” Such knowledge, while astute, doesn’t really outline a plan to victory.

In 2013, sporting events are tackled ad nauseum on social networks. Come next Sunday, if you find yourself near a Twitter stream, Facebook Timeline, Tumblr, etc., you’re going to hear about our beloved Patriots. A lot.

What can you expect from the upcoming AFC Championship game? Let’s break it down.

Ray Lewis Analysis

Ray Lewis is a big, scary dude. Everyone knows this. With this potentially being his last game, you can expect a tidal wave of analysis about how he is going to be on a warpath and how he “really wants to win this one.”

Guesses As To What Gronk Is Doing Instead

This is a fun one. People will be giving their best estimations of what Gronk will be doing instead of preparing for this week’s game. There are certainly bars and tables that need to be danced upon.

This is what Gronk did hours after the Patriots lost the Super Bowl last year, and he had an INJURED LEG. Imagine what he can do with only a forearm hampering him.

Eli Manning Jokes

“Hey Eli, how’s the golf course?” And in New England, we’ll all laugh and laugh.

“Where Is Sterling Moore Now?” Jokes

The man who (along with Billy Cundiff) single-handedly propelled the Patriots to the Super Bowl last year.

All it will take is one touchdown pass from Joe Flacco to have all of the wise guys asking where Moore has gone.

(He is on the Cowboys roster now, for those who were actually looking for an answer.)

The Experts Who Will Be Chatting On Sunday

The Coach –

“What was Bill thinking there? I never would have called that! Give the ball to Brady! Where’s Bobby Valentine when you need him?”

The Former Player -

“Back when I played high school ball, we ran that play all the time. These guys are professionals, how do they miss that? Where is my letterman jacket?”

The Cheerleader –

“Go Pats! So pumped for today’s game! Let’s goooooooo!”

The Fence-Straddler -

“I think the Patriots will win, but could definitely see Baltimore pulling it out. It could be Ray Lewis’ last game! Either way, it will be a great game!”

The Comedian –

“Where’s Drew Bledsoe?”

The Condescending Psychic –

“Pass to Welker on third down? Didn’t see that one coming.”

——————————————————————–

Expect to see these on Sunday, in some incarnation or another. If all else fails, forget the football, man. Just dance.

Update: 10:01 am EST - Facebook stock rises ahead of mystery announcement: http://ilink.me/13462

————————————————————–

Today at 1 pm EST, Facebook is hosting a press event to announce a new development for the social networking giant.

While there have been no leaks of potential stories, there are numerous speculations. A story on USA Today outlines Facebook’s potential interest in jumping into the search engine market, heightening the already contentious relationship with Google.

An enhanced advertising platform is also in the running, as Google owns over half of the mobile ad market in the US.

Not expected to be a player today is the long-standing notion of a Facebook phone. “It doesn’t move the needle for us,” Facebook founder Mark Zuckerberg said at a conference back in September of 2012.

Keep checking Grow Socially for updates – we will be adding to this blog as more details arise throughout the day.

And be sure to follow @GrowSocially on Twitter for updates.

We’re getting pretty festive around here at 21 Concord Street. Snowflakes, stockings, ornaments, even a Lionel Richie poster have all been spotted adorning our desks and doors.

The holiday season fosters goodwill and charity, as well as reinvigorated and iconic marketing and advertising. Every year, we see new holiday commercials that we enjoy. Some, however, are timeless. Even big brands reuse and recycle content if its worthy. So stoke the fireplace, pour some hot cocoa, and deck the halls with these holiday favorites from the Grow Socially team.

Grow Socially attended HUGSF12 for the first time this year – and I can say with certainty that it is one we are already looking forward to attending next year.  We learned a lot, met some great people, and had a blast.

With so many great moments, it is tough to pick the best. But we narrowed it down to three. Here are my top takeaways from HUGSF12.

There are tons of ways to maximize your Higher Logic experience.

From social media to mobile, and everything inbetween, the team showed a bunch of creative ways to maximize your Higher Logic experience. Our company was there to learn more about Higher Logic, and find unique ways to drive members to communities while incorporating a multichannel approach.

During the aptly named “45 in 45” session, the Higher Logic team shared 45 time-maximizing ideas in 45 minutes. I most enjoyed learning about using mobile apps to host an event driven by app user experience.

One panelist encouraged hosting events such as, “APPy Hours” to drive engagement and encourage fun.

Creativity is important (and highly encouraged)!

This event was the epitome of creativity. You don’t see many companies who put their development team in front of clients the way Higher Logic does. They even have a great mascot, a frog named Floyd, who lead the group in a big dance number.

They stressed the importance of having a creative presence – your website, social media channels, Higher Logic community, etc. – to show your members not only that you care about them, but also that you are relevant and informed.

There is an association for everything.

From the Society of Petroleum Engineers to an association for piano makers, there is truly an association for everything. I was fortunate enough to meet so many great people throughout the conference.

While the makeup and membership of every association is vastly different, the underlying principles stay the same, and all the same challenges are faced. They all want to increase membership and engagement. We can all learn something from each other.  Whether you are an association for Massachusetts teachers, or are like our friends Todd and Joan at the Geological Society of America, you have members that want you to care about them.

There are so many ways to engage with your members. My advice? Develop a strategy to connect and engage with your members or give us a call today – we would be more than happy to help.
