As marketers look for ways to do more with less, email continues to be a channel that can be very beneficial. It costs less than other forms of traditional media, and it provides a fairly consistent open rate for most companies.
However, it is still very important for marketers to actively try to increase the success that they do get from their email efforts.
How Video Can Improve Open Rates
The folks at MediaPost recently ran a summary of an Experian report on email efforts.
If you have a moment, it’s definitely worth reading.
I don’t want to steal too much of their thunder, but here were two of the big highlights:
- When marketers used the word “video” in an email subject line, Open Rates nearly doubled
- Including video in an email drove conversion rates higher by 21% on average

In an effort that has certainly generated some buzz for the social network, Google+ rolled out a pretty significant redesign today.
I’ve only had a few minutes to utilize it, but I like what I’ve seen. Yes, there might be some issues that they need to take care of (“too much white space on the right side” seems to be a common complaint).
However, the redesign seems to have done a great job of exposing people to more of Google+’s features, including Hangout and their Photo capabilities. I think that is an essential step towards increasing the amount of time that Google+’s users spend with it each week.
If you have some time, take a moment to watch the video that Google has produced about the changes:
And… I’d love to connect with you on Google+! Feel free to add me to your Circles today >>
Instagram and Facebook might have earned the biggest headlines in the social networking world this week.
However, that hasn’t stopped some of our other favorite social media tools from adding new features.
A New Way to Target from LinkedIn
While it’s only in limited-release mode right now, LinkedIn is rolling out new features that make it possible to share content from your Company pages with a defined group of people.
The purpose of this feature is two-fold:
- It should help companies increase engagement on the content that they post
- And for regular LinkedIn users, it should help to ensure that their News Feed is filled with more relevant content.
How Does this Feature Work?
The folks at LinkedIn have published a video that provides an overview of the features:
Will It Help You Grow?
We are certainly looking forward to using this feature for our own Company pages on LinkedIn.
Please feel free to follow our Grow Socially and interlinkONE pages today!
Also, if you’d like to learn how your company can benefit from utilizing LinkedIn more, our team of online marketing specialists would love to help!

I stumbled upon a great article in the Boston Globe regarding how the Boston Police are finding success through their social networking efforts.
I certainly do not want to steal too much thunder from their article — if you have a few minutes, please read the whole thing here.
But here were a few of the highlights that stood out to me:
They Are Not Just Dabbling, They Have Embraced Social Media
The article discusses how the Boston Police Department has a much larger Twitter following than that of other cities.
They credit a lot of that success to their attitude and actions. Rather than simply thinking that’s enough to “be on Twitter” and simply wait-and-see how it goes, they have fully embraced its potential and power.
They Have a Strategy and They Are Following It
Many organizations struggle with this question — what exactly should we talk about on Twitter?
Well, the best way to answer that question is to create a strategy and plan ahead. During that process, you would identify what goals and objectives you’d like to achieve in marketing in general. Then, plot out a way for Twitter to help you reach them.
In the case of the Boston Police Department, they run a weekly hashtag event named #MostWantedMonday.
That is helping them to create awareness of wanted suspects and engage the public about them.
They Are Using Multiple Channels To Make Their Efforts Successful
You might be wondering this — are people actually reporting crimes through Twitter?
Most people would shy away from doing that. Thus, the Boston Police Department is utilizing multiple channels to engage and gain feedback from their audience.
They have a Text-To-Tip program which encourages their Twitter followers to share information via Text message, as opposed to a tweet.
—————————-
I think this is a great example of how an organization can effectively use Twitter. By following those three steps, companies of all shapes and sizes may be able to find success through their social networking efforts as well.
Are you looking for a better way to manage your social networking profiles?
What if I told you that the secret to doing that had to do with wearing glasses? If that sounds crazy, I understand. But your mind may change a bit after watching the video Google has released promoting Project Glass.
I think Google has done a tremendous job in highlighting some of the practical benefits that this technology could bring to people. Throughout the video, we see how the glasses help someone update their social networks, talk on the phone, share video, access GPS directions, and more.
In today’s world of “always multi-tasking”, I certainly would be willing to give these glasses a try.
