Maybe you have heard of mobile-friendly websites by now. Maybe you haven’t. Regardless, now is the time for you to be up to speed with this new advance in website technology, and here are three big reasons why you should be sprinting to join the mobile wave.

1. Google Is Doing It

Google Sites automatically renders it’s websites mobile-optimized. So if you log onto your account and publish your site,  pull it up on your smart phone, it will automatically be optimized to be read in the palm of your hand.

Why does this matter? Because it’s Google, that’s why! When Google invests time and resources into something, then it is for real. Mobile websites aren’t a fad. And Google’s support of this is proof.

2. Mobile Commerce Rising

The statistics of mobile commerce are very encouraging. Industry statistics indicate that 41% of smartphone owners have made a purchase directly from their phone. Nearly half of smartphone users have done product research from their phone. “3.1 million consumers access retail content via mobile phones with 8.2 million of those visiting mobile commerce websites,” according to Digby.com.

The point is, a lot of people are involved in this. People search for products, and make informed, calculated purchases as a direct result of their mobile experience. Local searches are constantly being made, and most of the time, action is taken.

3. Everyone Will Have A Smartphone

This may be a slight exaggeration, but not all that much. It is predicted that by the end of 2011, nearly 500 million people will have a smart phone. The hours spent on the mobile web by the average person has almost doubled. There will be over $6 billion in advertising spent on mobile platforms. The audience is expanding, and the way they shop is migrating away from traditional methods and directly onto the smart phone.
